From Studio to Stage: The Dancing House Embarks on Its First Competition Journey

When we opened our "Big Studio Doors" in January 2020, our goal was clear: to create a space where dancers could elevate their skills through challenging choreography and advanced movement concepts. By 2022, this vision led to the creation of The Dancing House Performance Company.

The Dancing House Performance Company Mission: To provide our young, talented, and dedicated dancers with opportunities to deepen their dance education through choreography, guest instructors, and performance experiences.

This year, we're thrilled to embark on a new journey. Thanks to the leadership of Sophi Johnson and Savanna Flagstad,we've launched our first-ever competition program. Our dancers craved more, and Ms. Melissa sought team members to champion this initiative. With their guidance, four dancers, aged 10-14, will take the stage this winter as part of TDH's inaugural competition season.

As competition dancers, these young ladies not only attend weekly technique classes but also rehearse with the TDH Performance Company every Friday from 4:30-6 PM. Additionally, every Company member will participate in The INnovate Dance Event.This unique experience is designed to make participants feel INspired, INvigorated, INvolved, and INcluded. The event features master classes, performance opportunities, adjudication feedback, insights from industry speakers, and service projects. It offers our dancers exposure to diverse choreographers, various dance styles, and teaching methods, while fostering connections with fellow dance students in the Twin Cities metro area, building unity within our team.

The four dancers also dedicate additional rehearsal time to perfect their solos and duets, which they will perform at competitions such as Masquerade and DX Events. Here, they will showcase their skills, strength, stamina, and expression in front of judges. This is a significant step, challenging our dancers and exposing them to exceptional talent within the dance community.

We hope this new addition to The Dancing House inspires our students with the possibilities ahead and invites more students and dance educators to join our mission. Our goal is to help students of all ages and abilities develop into kind, confident, and life-ready individuals through the art of dance.
